China has 613 cities divided into four tiers with Tier 1 being for those with a GDP over US$300 billion (SCMP).
One of the first to be named a 'super first tier' city was Shenzhen; a bustling city of 13 million people and China's 7th biggest city.
Along with the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing, Shenzhen is in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area).
